Wild Bunch. Once again, an Anglophone title to strike up a bit of interest and you might think – fair enough. But maybe it’s better to look at it as a desire for an international perspective and openness for a means of communication that still has a lot to give and say.
The artists involved in the production of this artbook come from the comics world, with different histories and experiences, nationally and internationally. The authors enthusiastically embraced this initiative, providing unpublished material with the sole purpose of making their work known to the public and communicating that passion that goes from art to professionalism – from that seething wellspring of chaotic creativity to the finished craft with its discipline and rules and deadlines.
This selection of images includes research work prior to the actual drawing and writing of a comic, as well as previously unseen illustrations – those dictated by the need to experiment and try out new solutions. The collection is also intended to give space and visibility not just to the individual authors themselves, but to the works that would otherwise remain unseen.
Special thanks must go to Napoli Comicon, always alert to what’s happening in the young visual arts scene, and with great enthusiasm for the idea of a roster of diverse artists, has decided to commit itself to this new project.
We hope to spark the same level of interest and fun as we had in putting the show together!
